THE ELEVATOR TO LOVE

THE ELEVATOR TO LOVE

A Poem by Eddie Phillips

Love with you is like being in an elevator
You're a spoiled kid pushing every floor
One or two stops I can tolerate
These 15 floors I cannot endure

You love to take rest stops
You want to explore every new floor
I want to get to my chosen destination
I don't need to find something more

You keep stopping the elevator

I know now what you really want
A breaks in the midst of loving me
I quick stop for you frequent jaunts

I am tired of all your excursions
I have decided to get off this ride
I am going to catch another elevator
I'll find a passenger to stay by my side

Someone who will push only MY buttons
They will choose to ride with me home
Someone that will get off on my floor
They will never leave me alone

So you can just keep on playing
Pushing buttons until you get stuck
You will be desperate, alone, and crying
Lost between the floors love and lust
