ALONE BUT THERE

ALONE BUT THERE

A Poem by Eddie Phillips

To say I miss you is an understatement

My smile cloaks the mind I deceive

I think of you daily & constantly

but sacrifices are made to achieve

I am not lazy in my loneliness

I am active and vibrant to my goal

For if I must be alone without you

I work to come back with a better soul

I smile every time I think of you

That silly little smile on your face

Your eyes that cut through me so tenderly

and those arms that hold me tight when we embrace

I'm alone here working on our future

Still sadness burns daily at my soul

but no matter the hell fires around me

I think of you and remember my goal.

So into to this lonely horizon we journey

niether having the other one there

and I beseech God to hear my whisper

Of this simple but important love’s prayer:

When the distance tries to overcome you

and you reach for me through the dark empty air

You feel my love reaching in the darkness

and in your dreams God will allow me to be there
