PROSODY LOST

PROSODY LOST

A Poem by Eddie Phillips

This poem doesn't have my usual syncopation
I no longer feel your loves rhyme
Forcing it makes me feel empty
It is coerced like our love that has died
Your love for me was my rhythm
I moved to the beat of your heart
I woke craving the sounds of our passion
The echo of your heart next to mine
You danced with pantomimed affection
Waltzing me through the heartbreak of my life
You were deaf to my chorus of devotion
My refrain never opened your soul
Lost in your staccato my rhyme is broken
I have no partner, no legato; there is just pain!
So I cry out these last words in elegy
Finally bidding farewell to our life's dying song
I force this last metrical prosody
Just to state to myself you are really gone!
