The City Of Pity And Compassion

The City Of Pity And Compassion

A Poem by Eddie Phillips

There is a city called pity

its dirty and run down
people who live there
always walk with their heads held down

Everyone will visit this city

as we journey through our lives
For its inhabitants are our relatives, our husbands, and our wives

The people of pity aren't pretty
They love to display their shame.

Their newspaper is "THE MIRROR"
and the cover story is called "BLAME"

In this city of misfortune
they do have a party scene
For everyone throws a Pity party
out in the open to be seen

Though we visit Pity
Please never go to stay
for those who go there to live
soon waste away.

It is a town born of our ego
a place where misfortune dwells
For the reason Pity isn't pretty
is because it borders outside of Hell

So if you find yourself in Pity
and you stop and try the food
just remember theirs a train
that leaves the station
called UR MOOD

Get on and take a ride to
"Compassion"  The city by the lake
a place where you can look up
and never dwell on mistakes

This city is far from Pity
It borders Heaven's gates
The residents laugh and joke
and reject sophistry and hate

So move your family out of Pity
and bring them to Compassion's Gates
For escaping out of Pity
will ensure a compassionate fate

Compassion is built on mercy
to inhabitants tenderness is the role
and when we all get together
Love & Mercy is the goal.

Pity leaves you wanting
you will roam around unsure
But love conquers all things
so Compassion will always endure!

Beautifully written
I could see you holding the mention of the train until later; almost as an invite to choose the city of compassion by boarding the train or staying in pity once again.

I love this just the way it is as well, I think more need to be invite to ride this train. :)

A good write, but I think the train leaving for compassion should be saved for the last couple of passages. Don't mention till then.
