CORNY LOVE

CORNY LOVE

A Poem by Eddie Phillips

Hurt knocked me two steps backwards
and I fell right into you
My broken heart brought me my destiny
A love like I never knew

I thought "Love at first sight" was corny
Things never quite work like that
but that was before I saw you
as I stumbled backwards onto your track
Your love hit me like a mare
Running fast outside the gate
now corny words ain't so funny
When I call you Destiny, Kismet, and Fate

I never thought I'd find this
Life's recycling bin had worn me down
but somehow you rescued me
pulled me out of the lost and found

Yep, I took two steps backward
to get away from pain
and no matter how markishly sentimental
I have to state this to you plain:

You made everything different
This realist will never be the same
and no matter how corny it sounds
I feel love when I speak your name.
