1. A Chance Meeting

1. A Chance Meeting

A Chapter by E. Kang

Living in London is great! It's so amazing here, thought Sierra. On a typical grey, overcast day, Sierra was taking a walk. She had had a difficult day at school, only able to think about the final Harry Potter movie she had seen over the weekend. A hardcore Harry Potter love from the very beginning, Sierra couldn't handle her childhood ending. She had severe Post-Potter Depression.
Sierra decided to go to a cafe she hadn't been to before. She felt like changing up her routine a little. Unsure of which cafe to choose, Sierra decided to go home first and change out of her school uniform. Then she would go choose a cafe at random to go to.
Sierra reached the steep hill she had to climb in order to get home. Sighing, she started to walk a little more quickly, thinking that it would be better to get it over with. After almost ten minutes, she reached the top panting and slightly sweaty. Halfway up the cursed hill, Sierra had made up her mind to shower before leaving again. Reaching her house, she was surprised to see her mother's car in the driveway. Her mom usually worked until 8 at night, but it was only 3:45.
Walking in through the front door, Sierra called out, "Mum? Why are you home early?" Hearing no answer she walked up to her mother's bedroom. She found her mom asleep on her bed, so she walked back out quietly and closed the door.
After a relaxing shower, Sierra changed into a cute but casual outfit: a light peach, flowy tank top, dark skinny jeans, white blazer, and floral sneakers. She put up her long, dark hair into a wavy half up-do. Grabbing a pink bag, she put in some homework, a book, and other necessities. Getting her keys from the kitchen counter, she walked into the living room and found her mom sitting on the couch watching television.
"Hey Mum, I'm going to go out for a bit. Why are you home early, though?" asked Sierra. Her mother, Alaina, ignored her. Alaina hadn't spoken to Sierra much after her father had left them. Sierra felt like it was somehow her fault that her father left, but she didn't know why her mom had stopped talking to her. All Alaina did was work, eat, and sleep. Sierra's relationship with her mother wasn't a good one, but she still tried.
"Mum, do you mind if I take the car?" asked Sierra. Alaina shook her head slightly.
"Alright, thanks. I'll be home in a few hours." Sierra said, and went to go get her mom's car keys. She left through the front door and got into her mom's Prius. Starting up the car, Sierra backed out of her driveway. At the age of 17, she was one year away from graduating high school, and she couldn't wait. All she wanted was to get away from her house and the bad memories.
Reaching downtown London took about fifteen minutes. Sierra usually only went to one cafe, Coffee Land, but today, she passed by her usual pit stop and kept driving. After a few more minutes had passed, she stopped at a secluded cafe. It looked nice and peaceful, so Sierra chose the cafe called Coffee Kiosk.
Walking into Coffee Kiosk, the smell of coffee washed over her, melting away her stress. Cafes were Sierra's favorite places to be. This cafe had more couches, comfortable chairs, and interesting tables than standard eating tables and chairs. Sierra already loved the place. There were barely any people, which she also loved. Only two dark-haired boys, a man who looked bored, and a woman who was clicking away at a laptop were sitting scattered around the cafe. Sierra ordered a strawberry frappuccino and stood waiting for her drink to be made.
Out of the corner of her eye, she saw that both of the dark-haired boys were looking at her. Not wanting to look at them, she turned her head to the other side and pretended to examine one of the photos on the wall. Her frappuccino came out, and with a "thank you" to the barista, she walked over to a corner of the cafe. From her corner, she had a good view of the entire cafe, including the two boys who were now whispering to each other. She couldn't really see their faces, but Sierra hadn't gone there to check out boys.
Sierra pulled out her homework and stared down at her Calculus worksheet. Math wasn't her favorite subject, but she understood it pretty well, so she got to work. Within the next ten minutes, both the man and the woman had left; the only customers who remained were the boys and Sierra. Sierra had finished three problems out of five. She was thankful that her homework load was light today.
"No, you do it!" came a loud whisper from the boys' area.
"Mate, why do I have to? You go!" came another whisper. Sierra glanced over at the boys. They looked like twins. Suddenly, she was able to see their faces clearly. Sierra gasped. It was the Phelps twins. From the Harry Potter movies; James and Oliver Phelps, otherwise known as Fred and George Weasley, were at the same cafe she was at.
James and Oliver had heard her gasp and were now grinning at her, knowing that she knew who they were.
