Chapter 2A Chapter by E. Kang
Tae and Reyna headed straight for the cafe once they arrived at Infinity Books.
"Hey, Marcus!" exclaimed Reyna. Marcus looked up and smiled, and without a word he got out a plate of Infinity Book's famous blueberry cobbler. "Thanks! Could I also have some of today's pasta? I'm so hungry. And, sorry, one more thing. Pink lemonade?" asked Reyna, whose stomach had just growled loudly. She smiled at Marcus, who nodded and went to the back to get some of the pasta and lemonade. "Go to your usual spot. I'll bring it to you when Marcus comes back," said Tae. "Aww, you're so nice. Thanks!" Reyna exclaimed. She hurried off to the back of the book store, where her favorite reading spot was. Nestled in a corner was a giant purple bean bag chair. Reyna was ready to collapse onto the comfortable bean bag where she had fallen asleep numerous times, but she remembered to look for a book called Skulduggery Pleasant, which she heard was a fantastic book by Derek Landy. It took her a few minutes to find it, but when she did, she eagerly hurried back to her little corner. Much to her disappointment, Tae wasn't there yet. But someone else was. He was handsome. Reyna marveled at his fine features. She could see that even though his eyes were closed, he wasn't really asleep. Reyna realized that this stranger was hotter than Trevor. She never thought she'd meet anyone whose looks surpassed Trevor's. The boy's eyes suddenly opened. Reyna let out a little gasp. His eyes were the most stunning shade of green. A brown-haired, green-eyed boy. For some reasons, Reyna found that combination to be very appealing. The extremely hot boy raised an eyebrow at her. "Um," squeaked Reyna, "you're in my spot..." she trailed off. She couldn't stop marveling at how beautiful his eyes were. "Rey?" It was Tae with her food. Reyna had a difficult time tearing her eyes away from the perfect stranger. She blinked, trying to unscramble her thoughts. "Who's this?" Tae asked, eyeing the boy lounging in Reyna's favorite reading spot. "I don't know," said Reyna, "He was just here when I got here." She looked back at Hottie Hot Hot in her beanbag chair. "So who are you?" she asked. Hottie Hot Hot didn't respond. He just stared at her, which she found to be disconcerting. For some reason, being the boy's center of attention made her heart race. "Hey dude, she asked you a question," said Tae, uncomfortable with the way he was staring at her, and even more uncomfortable with the way she was staring back. Keeping his eyes on Reyna, the strange boy slowly stood up. "My name is Carter. Carter Adente." Carter has a nice voice, Reyna mused. He seems like he'd be a good singer or something, she thought. With a bright smile, Reyna said, "Hi, Carter. I'm Reyna, and this is Tae." Carter looked over at Tae, who was staring sullenly down at Reyna's food, which he was still holding. Reyna asked Carter, "So do you go to Westview?" He looked confused, so Reyna hesitantly added, "...school? What school do you go to?" Carter smirked, which made Reyna's stomach flip. "I do not attend school," he said. Reyna noticed his slightly formal way of speaking. "You don't?" Tae asked, confused. Without a glance at Tae, Carter said, "I train in a sort of academy." Reyna saw that Carter seemed to be speaking only to her. He didn't even spare Tae a glance. She felt Carter was being a bit rude, but her curiosity won her over, and instead she asked, "An academy? Where at?" Carter stared at her a bit longer than necessary. "In a place called Amalynt."
