Here, the Dark I Know WellA Poem by Elana Juli Royson
Take me from here,
This place I know too well. The spaces and faces and this love where I fell. The sun sets late here and the sun burns my eyes they say it's perfect but they don't hear the cries. I fade into darkness here where those saddened refuge, where those with lost love die waiting for their rescue. The stories the walls hear of broken hearts and confusion could fill novels and shelves feeding optimist's delusions. There's one way out of here a small tunnel leading to light this is where the lost try to escape hurting others in the fight. It's a vicious cycle in here, in this darkness where we lie fighting to feel love once more until eventually we die. Take me from here and we will walk hand in hand to the place they all talk about that perfect, promised land.
