look at me

look at me

A Poem by Jean-Pierre Garcia

When we first begin to yell at our parents

we start in order to gain approval or attention

we would say look at me

look at me

(you and you're hungry eyes)

some people never grow out of it

and were put on pills for their attention disorder

deficit

we learn then that the right thing to do is look away

on our blackberry while we are with our friends

with our government

we look away

it is when we can look at each other and see behind the eyes

we kept averted

that we take for granted what was right in front of us

the thing we ignored

That's how I see you.

Star drunk off romance inthe fruit punch

demanding desire to be looked upon

for me

the the thing almost forgotten
