Henry David's allure

Henry David's allure

A Poem by eglantine

I hear Thoreau

preferred women

with sea-glass

hair and eyes

deep as water

caves.  Allure

is not what is

seen but

what beckons--

a siren desperate to waken

the voice submered

beneath consciousness,

a violet pressed

between poetry

pages.  Skin

pale as ghost

coral, soft as sunset,

he looked all his life for allure

but like the tyme-scented mist

on his morning walk, it's damp

and barely

there.

I think your background as and English major really showed here. This is a quality piece of writing with some wonderful images, particularly about the women. I recently visited Walden Pond for the first time and found it to be a fascinating place. I was thrilled to be in the same place Thoreau conducted his living experiment.

This is quite whaleiful and I couldn't agree more, I completely get it too. I feel a though most people, this concept is like a foreign language, but, what a small percentage of people do see, is something that cannot be seen. This is mega and everything from F1 to F12. I hope your dreams are filled with whales.

this is quite a thought. most of us think of allure as visual, but if you really stop and think about it, it's something else entirely. those to whom i'm most attracted , it's something intangible that reaches me first. the visual attraction is secondary.

I enjoy the way you move from one concrete image to another. Such a basic concept that some people don't grasp, or if they do they lose meaning in the words, but you've got both meaning and superb description :)
