The Italic life

The Italic life

A Poem by eglantine

My heart is italic, like a baby bat's wing
and October snow falls like eyelashes
on a sleeping lovers cheek.

It's four a.m.--the hour for wide-eyed
poets and lost tree spirits.

Dandelions grow backwards here,
     like eyes hungry for oxygen.

The universe washes up on my lips shoreline;
     can you taste the stars on my breath?

My heart throbs beneath crescent bone:
     syllable,
                syllable,
                           syllable.

I don't understand what the poem is exactly about but it reminds so well of Sylvia Plath's poetry particularly the last lines " syllable, syllable, ______________________________, syllable "
Nevertheless lines like " dandelions grow backwards " and "The universe washes up on my lips shoreline;
can you taste the stars on my breath?"
succeed to conjure up a very artistic image that craves itself into your mind.
Wonderful poetry.

It is always 4 am in my world, the moon is the light that I write by and the whispers from the gallows the tune I hum as I write of the numbness of the day...nice poem E :)

Thank you as always terry :)
Two things I find in your rainbow write: "The taste of life & the mixture of love".
Multi-passionate poetry you've written with the heart where one may even watches the midnight hues of Italian-Heart through your words. When you talk 'bout "4-a.m" morn, it reminds me the "writers-time". Poets enjoy letting their pen walk over the pages at this time so do you. Nice imagery.

honestly, i didn't understand it, still I loved it ! I've even read it twice and three times, then I realized that's the kind of poetry you love for its wonderful images, even if you don't get their meaning.
"baby bat's wings", "snow falls on a lover cheek", "eyes hungry for oxygen", "taste the stars", I mean, you read this and you just stay speechless ! It's sublime.
