Soul-ache

Soul-ache

A Poem by eglantine

wrap me in rose-thorns,
I have no need of skin
   and this morning is too
   bright to kiss.

cold palm on window-glass,
   legs shaking like prayers,
   leave me naked of song,
   wipe away my breath
so I can watch the trees
   pretend to be priests.

I am a pair of quiet lips,
   a left shoe forgotten outside,
the alpenglow in a bottle of wine.

I, like the clouds, have no need of skin.
   Let me have no shape
   but airy water dissolved

   across a window.

This is stunning E. A certain sadness seems to filter through your words this morning, hopefully someone comes along and with their finger and draws a heart in the mist now gathered on the glass so you will know you are loved. Beautifully done. I thought about picking out a line or two that I liked the best, but they all fell into that catagory to me.

Great writing... Somehow in our most forlorn moments, even our own skin seems to mock us, resembling a healthy living thing. I get this. Brighter days ahead...

Yes, I can't wait for those brighter days, and I hope they rise soon. Thank you!
A beginning of red,love-pained images resolved into wishes of being ethereal. Truly well done, you make it look so effortless.

I particular was startled by the images of trees as priests... startled at how obvious the image is, yet I've never seen it before.

Thanks for reading Mark
Touchingly sensitive rendering of those moments one wishes one could literally dissolve into greater Nature.

"Let me have no shape/but airy water dissolved/across a window." Cure for soul-ache yes, & also the fine sensibility of Zen.

Elegant & poignant.

I have a feeling the left-handed smoke shifter would like your comments... thank you!
Jack is right, a stunning poem of literary quality. I like especially the return to the first image in the last verse, this time with the pronoun, that rounds this off wonderfully, like too very much the alpenglow image combined with wine, I associate here Austria...a fine write !

Merci!
like the clouds, have no need for skin

WOW that line really grabbed a hold of me... we should not limit our potential based on the environment we grew up in, our roots are made to grow as long as we are alive.

Thanks for reading, as always
I have no need of skin, no need to feel...let me float in the ether......your phrasing is immaculate. Shaking like prayers, trees like priests, and the loneliness and abandonment of a sole shoe. You make pain quietly beautiful. Thank you.

merci beaucoup CM
this poem is written with such raw power... it actually made me feel something when i thought i couldnt feel anything other than hurt. you seem to speak to me through your poetry. it seems your work always knows just how to put my emotions right in front of me... very very good my dear.
