A good word of mine

A good word of mine

A Poem by eglantine

After one too many tequila

shots, I stumbled from the bar

to my deprived house to find

Vincent Van Gogh, in polka-dot

boxers, Nike shoes and Sherlock hat,

standing on my well-fed couch.

Poetry surrounds us everywhere,

but putting it on paper is, alas,

not so easy as looking at it

he sang to me as his arms

conducted to an orchestra

of dusty, acrylic-lined shadows.

What else could I possibly

do other than to strip to

my underwear, grab a magnifying

glass, and dance the dance of writing?

It is amazing that the core of this poem is "alas." The final stanza captivates me every time I read it. Not only do you capture what the mechanics of writing can be like, but you introduce your reader to an intimate scene which displays the romantic nature of the act itself.

This is a dainty bohemian poem, I found it strangely youthful and I like how it is about literature.

Writing spurred like this can often be outstanding and incredible. I know this write is. So visual, as usual. "...standing on my well-fed couch." Just awesome.

Van Gogh, sporting Nike shoes? ––Wonderful imagery. Oh and the power of a little
spirit (the tequila) to jar the heavy doors of imagination/ wide open? mustn't
be underestimated... New here at the Cafe, and enjoyed this piece immensely.

Welcome to WC! :D Thanks for reading and reviewing. I appreciate all feedback.
this may be my favorite poem of yours so far. i love the image of vincent van gogh you've painted. and the idea of being surrounded by poetry but being unable to harness it is very cool. you keep getting better and better.
