The Odyssey of Flight 370A Screenplay by Earl F.“Ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking. At this time flight 370 has begun its final decent into Beijing Capital International Airport. Please ensure that your seat belts are fastened and your tray tables are returned to their full upright and locked position. Very soon our flight attendants will be making one last pass through the cabin in order to collect any remaining beverages. If you are connecting in Beijing please check the video monitors upon deplaning for your new flight information and on behalf of the entire crew we thank you for choosing Air Malaysia. Beijing local time is 06:30 UTC, 8 March, 2014. We thank you again and we’ll be on the ground shortly.” Upon concluding his landing announcement the captain checks with his first officer for final landing preparations and then switches radio frequencies to contact Beijing approach. (MH370) “Beijing Tower, Malaysia Three-Seven-Zero Heavy requesting left closed traffic.” (No response) (MH370) “Beijing Tower, I say again. This is Malaysia Three-Seven-Zero Heavy requesting left closed traffic.” (Short silence) (Beijing Tower) “To the aircraft identifying itself as Malaysia Heavy, please repeat call sign.” (MH370 - sounding slightly confused) “Beijing Tower this is Three-Seven-Zero Heavy, over?” (Extended silence) (Beijing Tower - stern voice) “To the aircraft identifying itself as Malaysia Heavy, your call sign cannot possibly be Three-Seven-Zero. That ID was retired by your airline 27 years ago in 2014 when the original flight disappeared and was never found. Now, please stop joking around and reply with correct ID.” (MH370) (Silence in the cockpit. The pilot and co-pilot share a common look of incredulity.) (MH370 - The captain addresses the passengers) "Ladies and gentlemen. This is the captain. We (slight pause) seem to have a problem here ..." (Screen fades to black; the announcer is cued.) "There is a fifth dimension beyond that which is known to man. It is a dimension as vast as space and timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition, and it lies between the pit of man's fears and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination. It is an area we call..." © 2014 Earl F.Author's Note
