Books, Hope & Reality

Books, Hope & Reality

A Chapter by W. C. Forrest

Books, the place of unquestionable wisdom, knowledge and learning, a whole new world where we can lose ourselves, get new perspectives about life and the world, real or otherwise. But, even words can betray us and perhaps after reading so much we start confusing books with reality. Everything happens as it should in the world of words because it is nothing but imagination, a utopia. Maybe, the reason for their creation, the purpose of their existence was to help us escape reality. Books give us hope, but, hope is overrated. It is a measure of mediocrity which only satisfies and feeds egos around the world. To hope should be a sin; it not only gives you a reason to believe you can outrun reality but also shatters and ruptures your entire existence with one mighty blow to heart and soul by bowing down to reality's whim. We are told time and again how beautiful and colorful life is but eventually everyone realizes even the earth revolves anti clockwise. So don't hope but believe, not in yourself because believing in yourself is another form of hope and hence a faux pas but in reality. It is never about 'my dreams', 'my plans', 'my desires' or anything even remotely related to 'me', 'myself' or 'I' because we are all part of one huge universe and everything that happens is a part of one big decision that affects all of us. To some sorrow is awarded and some are given despair, some get love and some hate, some friendship and some enemies, some understand reality and accept its nature but most of us get 'HOPE', and we embrace it like fools. The day we accept reality and forget false hope offered to us, accept our fate to be nothing but pawns of reality, learn to live with whatever little satisfaction reality chooses to provide us with, and accept whatever it makes us, we will be happy and content; this is the only freedom we have, the freedom to accept reality. So read, but do not get disillusioned by the fickle words on paper for they are devious indeed which will trap you in your imagination and leave you with hope. The ever overrated HOPE.
