The Blade

The Blade

A Poem by Rain Bo
"

This is my attempt at free verse. I had been reading Ellen Hopkins, and was feeling inspired. From the point of view of someone who cuts his/her self. And (as you may or may not gather from the information given) his/her family finds out.

"

It's the

            apathy

that makes me

            return

to the

            blade.

But the blade does

            relieve.

            I

cut to

            feel.

I feel

            only

the blade sliding, the blood

flowing, the

            pain.

Why Lie?

            This

wasn't an

             accident.

But that's what

              hurts

them

              most.

Not that

I meant for this to happen.

               I

don't

              need

all of

              this

negative

              attention.

I really like this. I have never really cut myself but i am drawn to poems about that subject. The 2 in 1 poem is genius!

I personally know someone who cut herself, when she was just 12. She was doing it exactly for the reason you said the person in the poem was doing it for - attention. It's a wonderful, mournful, poignant poem that makes you ache inside. I could never in my life come up with that 2 in 1 thing... Wow!

I think this is a wonderful poem. First attempt or not, you have written two poems in one with your clever choice of red. A very interesting style. Thank you for sharing.
