Destiny's Slave

Destiny's Slave

A Poem by papaed
"

a denial of destiny's power

"

Are we to have no hope

as we traverse the slippery slope

of a thousand daily decisions?

Are we not allowed belligerent wrath

as we face hardships along our path

from welcome birth to hated death?

Are we but puppets of flesh created

to dance, dangle, and feel elated

for some perverse satisfaction?

Do we follow complex scripts through trials

of mystery, tragedy, and humor with denials

that we have no control?

Is education just one of the tools

that make us into ironic fools

on a cruel, surreal stage?

Is it just within our dreams

that freedom is as it seems

a choice that we may make?

I refuse to place the blame

for actions that I claim

on predeterminism

If destiny’s touch is on my life

it’s with a broad brush, not a knife

as I will not be destiny’s slave!

Nicely written poem about one man's abhorrence to predetermination. You also touch upon a divine plan held by a higher being playing with puppet strings and question free will.

So that begs the questions: Is it his destiny to challenge destiny or is that his free will? Is it his destiny to express free will?

The n are circular enough to give me a massive headache. Or is that just part of the plan?

Nice write.

I wanted to shout 'Bravo!' at the final line!

Your poem makes me think and feel .. so many times destiny has cropped up in conversation, print, thought and I've never known whether or not i believe in a pre-planned exquisite for every human being on this planet. Seems your words have explained this and that to me, merely by asking the question:

' Do we follow complex scripts through trials of mystery, tragedy, and humor with denials that we have no control? '

I wonder at that point if destiny knows about DNA and all that .. because we're limited or stretched by our inheritance of past, surely.

Ooops, sorry this is your writing, not mine. I suppose i have to use the phrase: 'This is a very thought provoking poem' .. great thoughts here .. and poetry.
