THE SHADOW OF FEARA Poem by papaedAnswer to an Albert's Poetry Cafe ChallengeI’m unable to share, enjoy food, or to sleep without ugly dreams. I’m too easy to scare, always rude. I jerk awake to my own screams.
My defense against boys keeps me safe. My legs are unattractive sticks Others seem to find joys. Not this waif. I know no way to get my kicks
I hate this dreadful life Filled with fear. I wish only I could be free. The rapist held a knife at my ear. The memory can overwhelm me. © 2009 papaed |
