Our Aging Love

Our Aging Love

A Poem by papaed
"

ruminations on an aging relationship.

"

I, your impecunious cantankerous lummox hold the belief

that aimless ambivalence is the unsanctioned thief

of time’s tortuous thoughtless tole

on both our bodies and our souls

as we teeter on the derogatory precipice

of an age-worn, second-hand appearance

as salubrious nourishment consumption is no longer

clearly making us energetic and stronger

as my lucid cogitation is frequently truant

your impromptu carping has turned more fluent

as ostentatiously ornate make-up application

does not always generate obvious amelioration

I recommend that we immediately desist

attempting age exorcism, as it will persist

and spend our time trying to exemplify

unrestrained wisdom that may amplify

our precocious grandchildren’s positive traits

to possibly aid in attracting productive soul mates

let us replace habitual turpitude

with creative steadfast moral fortitude

let youth be wasted on the young

and hold back our critical tongue

firmly clutch our glorious dreams

of soft love under moonlight beams

of tall masted sailing ships on green seas

and of cloud animals floating on the breeze

of sweet cascades of aromatic wildflowers

and distant vistas with entrancing powers

this picture postcard perfect love of ours

manufactured and kept alive in the stars
