An Urban Fairy TaleA Poem by papaedanswer to a Paradise challengechildhood filled with fear and anger cement buildings cold and rough daily demands filled with danger She was raised forlorn and tough
early she learned the Opium serenade early she suppressed all innocence in rubbled weedy lots she played and longed for life to make sense
strewn across the abysmal landscape a poor-man’s grave with graffiti headstone daydream oblivion her best escape and only she hears when the dead moan
her needs cascade and yield to demands of relief and expression of life from soil she learns to love with dirty hands the fruits of life that come from toil
this butterfly in shabby-dress protects and loves the only color that to her life does bless and helps her to stand taller
wildflowers grown atop the graves bring thoughts and smells of sweets of the seduction that she craves and of passion between white sheets
with Chrysanthemums in hand and hair our butterfly can dream of other places and be drawn from within her lair to a far-off place with happy faces © 2008 papaed |
