patsygirl and eddiepies

A Poem by Ed Hart
"

as a dear friend says about her postings here at wc: 'somewhat poetic prose'

"

a south dakota farm girl

met her lost angels street kid

sixty years on

                       beyond the carnage

of broken marriages

and multiples of in-betweens

he was already fading

of defects in mind and body

smoking black cigars

and betting a minimal wage

in low caliber poker rooms

she was the teacher

she was the nurse

even his blond jokes

and litany of true confessions

didn't phase her focus

(you'll have to ask her why)

her patience allowed him

to discover the colors

in heart-friend acceptance

unjudged unhurried untamed

he unfolded into the gift of love

to lift a phrasing from robert lewis:

now he lives where he longed to be

the sailor home from the sea

the hunter from the hill

As I mentioned years before, you are the master of brevity. You can take a life story and summarize in a manner that's long-lasting and meaningful.

This is why I keep coming back.

Ohara enters this poem (i imagine as he enters everyone's poems) where observation is given
an urgency and insistence that the story, that of
finding, longing and returning, is true of all of us.
And it is true my friend, that love transforms all of us....beautiful.....dana

some of us win the lottery, and don't have to buy a ticket...
Excellent poetry Ed. A story, (one assumes true) that touches the intelligent heart. Written in a mature, rich, multi layered, beautiful style. As suits its subject matter. Wonderful.
