old man death

old man death

A Poem by Ed Hart
"

even my archives aren't safe from a little tweak and polish

"
old man death
diggin' my grave
he say, 'give us a hand,
you ain't doin' nothin'

i say,
'you think there's time
for one more dance'

he shake his head
'you 'bout danced out,
an' who gonna be dancin' wich you,
grab that shovel'

i say,
'how 'bout i lay down dancin'

The narrator embodies pure life force. We're reminded that it is always a decision to remain alive. That for some, the disgracing, unforgiving nature of death will seek you out rather than the other way around. But that we always have the choice to consent on our own terms.
I think my great aunt lived til her late 90's because she didn't want to miss out on the fun. She, like this narrator, didn't hold on to life for fear of death, but for the love of life. It's inspiring.

None of us will ever know the date of our meeting with old man death. We might as well go out dancing is a great way to look at it. Humor never put anyone in the grave early as far as I know.

Nice one Ed.

And Merry Christmas to you, dear friend!

Think i must have a warped sense of humour, Sir Hart: ' could hear you reading this, lil smile about the lips. Even in death there needs to be sweet satisfaction after a full life!. If i shouldn't be smiling, forgive me, but.. that last line would make such a good epitaph.

Wishing you and your family everything you wish yourselves now and into the wherever whenever.

Ahh what a rethorical question to no less than man's fate on this planet...death claims all men, even the strongest or most glamorous.

Death and time are common themes, but you manage ( again ) to give us a fresh and new impression of it.

I'll dance with you Ed....any day of the week...in this universe or the next....my dance card is boundless, just like your spirit...always a refreshing youthfulness when it gazes my way😀

This was clever, and a really neat and a subtly sentimental piece, I think everybody can relate to it! It's scary how fast our lives go by.

And you can certainly dance my good friend. Your work humbles me.
