whispering place

whispering place

A Poem by Ed Hart

the chair

she rescued from the thrift shop

for five dollars

is waiting next to the sofa

to be recushioned

by her farm girl hands

and prettied with a blush of stain

we'll leave the deeper scars

for the wonder of a grandchild

soon to be rocked

still this brings me to tears, this ..... maybe because i love the grandness of putting down roots with "another man's junk" turned into memories coming with the new. history offers comfort, warmth, contours that already fit. just sit back and ..... watch. i do hope you brought your piano, tho. you must play for me -- i'm particularly mourning not being able to play leonard cohen's Hallelujah.

I like the way you throw out a few lines with excellent glimmers of imagery & relatable, yet original specific details . . . and there's still plenty of space for the reader to inject one's own interpretations. These are nicely-crafted phrases: "prettied with a blush of stain" . . . and "a grandchild soon to be rocked." So much can be gleaned from that last stanza . . . *smile*

Them farms girls know how to make an old (chair) ageless and warmly comfortable for sitting :) I love antiques, they have so much character. Gorgeous!

The beauty of a refurbished antique is a quiet reminder the past lives still...

after birth, after puberty, after menopause; women become sophisticated clocks that prepare the
unfashionable to both hold up and polish history. Nothing else in nature is that meticulous with
time and regulation. My great grandma taught me how to walk, then when I got old enough to remember
what she smelled like, she was gone. Meticulous regulation.

We marvel at the strange, this poetry thing, as it recreates the mysterious....
Well done sir...
