High School

High School

A Poem by Ian Duncan Arbogast

lined with paper and broken dreams

see the light before it gleams

the vicious hounds that fill the street

prowling for a piece of meat

links of chains entwined by traits

corridors of hope shadowing the pit

a stone prison of fantasy

reality postponed

as you climb the stairs

you reach the ladder

in hope to embrace the shiny matter

a crack hums through the nothingness

rung by rung

piece by piece

they fall to the pit

impalement of guilt haunts your mind

bleeding hope

losing life

then from the sky

drops

a rope

aha, I like how the form of the poem gets narrower, to go along with the metaphor of the rope. or a noose, perhaps.

high school, a waste, quite frankly. fake relationships fall through right at graduation, it's like a slaughterhouse, basically.
knew it too well.

just so reviewers and viewers a like know, the 'rope' is a physical metaphor of the repetition of such a dread activity.
