The World Takes a Daily BeatingA Poem by Chaise NicoleA Bop about Ferguson.A body falls and this time, Everyone hears the sound. The metallic glint of an indemnity Protects a heinous crime. The killer hides behind a title, Indicted only by the publics roar. I know all too well the world takes a daily beating. A mothers efforts wasted, To see her son graduate. She says he loved life, But there's no life to be found Laying on the cold pavement A body disrespected, brutalized By a dishonorable man Who thought the killing blow wasn't enough. I know all too well the world takes a daily beating. I learned this morning That if you're a white man With a uniform, a badge, and An itchy trigger finger, that Murder is just a paid leave of absence, And a stack of paperwork on a desk. I know all too well the world takes a daily beating. © 2014 Chaise NicoleReviews
