The Epic of Our GenerationA Poem by Chaise NicoleA Mini-Epic I wrote for my Creative Writing Course.
Destined for greatness,
Bound by the chains of failure We found ourselves caught in a plane of mindless existence; Where, it is easier to feel nothing... Nothing; It is the choke hold that Strangled the life out of him. She sits on the edge of the bed Tortured by a holy book she Never signed her life too The overwhelming silence Amplifying an internal battle. There is nothing in our pockets Bags empty, hands bare. A woman with a professional smile Giving the steps to suicide prevention, As if you could troubleshoot a disorder, And says, "The state requires us to do this" Sugarcoated professional sympathy Solving the fears to eat, fears to sleep Of our narcissistic entitled generation, Ruled by the magazines of the thin and beautiful We refuse to loathe ourselves anymore. We refuse to loathe each other anymore. Colorblind equality between the folds Of sexuality we refuse to be oppressed No longer bound by anything but Our destiny for greatness.
