Father, Forgive MeA Poem by Lorraine HamptonIf you are offended by it, please forgive me. It's a cry for all who are victimized by intolerance. It's not meant to criticize anyone, but rather to call to all good people.Father, forgive me For it seems, I have
sinned. Father, forgive me, I didn’t know it was a
crime To be like Jesus Christ.
Father, can you hear
me? I’m sorry I’m so accepting I associated with
lepers And I held out my open
arms For those strange to me
Father, forgive me I didn’t know love was
a crime Father, help me I can’t see why they
say I’m the one who’s blind!
Father, I’m sorry I loved my neighbor Despite what they might
be I befriended them And they taught me to
see Tell me father, Will you punish me For listening To what you and your
son Taught me?
What happened to Turn the other cheek? What happened to Praying for the lost? What happened to Being kind and loving? What happened to Leaving judgment to God?
Father, forgive me For I have sinned I only wanted to be like Jesus Christ. © 2013 Lorraine HamptonAuthor's Note
