CounteractA Poem by Eddie DavisA heartfelt poem in a troubled period of time.Counteract
My spirit life is full of rust, From long neglect, covered in dust,
Noble themes of eternity, Faith and hope, love earnestly,
Are muted now under the roar, Of selfish thoughts and want for more,
And days go by then turn to years, And I’m consumed by all my fears,
Not aware of my great loss, When I forget the rugged cross,
Or live to worship Christ the Lord, But strive instead by my accord,
How simple once it used to be, Discernment and morality,
Loving God with all my might, Armed with faith, prepared to fight,
When fear and doubt would cloud my skies, And sinful guilt would sting my eyes,
Amazing Grace would be my song, And Jesus Christ would right my wrong,
Though many miles in sin you track, Returning home is one step back,
Satan whispers ‘please your will’, But Jesus Christ is nearer still,
Loving arms nailed open wide, For our salvation, crucified,
And though you’re stained from white to gray, Forgiveness is a prayer away.
