![]() Prior DaysA Poem by Eddie Davis![]() When youthful optimism crashes into the reality of adulthood![]() ![]() Prior Days
I reminisce of prior days, The idle times of youthful haze,
When all I ever wished to be, Lay deep within the heart of me,
Waiting to be activated, When my soul was captivated,
While in pursuit of golden dream, I’d work and labor, plot and scheme,
Always knowing that come what may, I’d solve the problem my own way,
Since I, all knowing and all wise, At least within my own young eyes,
Had all the strength to be the best, And slay all dragons on my quest,
But blueprints of a lingering dream, Were much more real than now t’would seem,
The windmills tilted long before, Will challenge no-one any more,
The way is lost to Faerie Queen, The Red Cross knight has left the scene,
And Camelot also has gone, As Arthur sails to Avalon,
The sunlit days now fade to gloom, Reality proclaims my doom,
All the dreams and plans you see, Are now an old man’s memory,
Haunting specter, a ghost by night, Dissolving in the morning light
