AleiryidA Chapter by Eddie DavisAmala and Carn experience the shared dreams of Aleiryid66. Aleiryid
She was surrounded by Orcs, all of them tall, savage, and rushing at her from all sides with long bloody swords and axes. She fought like a lioness, slashing, swinging, cutting and thrusting, but still they came in a tireless stream. The same feeling of complete hopelessness overwhelmed her. She was all alone and she was so very scared.
Suddenly he was beside her, but though he carried a huge axe, he was chanting a song as the Orcs attacked them. “Sing with me!” He yelled at her, and she looked up at him. It was Carn, but he was a Bugbear again, tall and hairy, yet still Carn. “Sing with me, Amala!” He called to her a second time. “I can’t! I’ve got to use my swords!” She replied, afraid to stop swinging. “Apart, they will kill us both, together we are much stronger! Sing with me!” He pleaded, as the Orcs swarmed over him, chopping at him. At first she tried to defend him with her swords. He was buried underneath them yet she could still hear his voice beckoning her to join him in song. But if she stopped her attack and joined him in song, she’d be vulnerable too. However, if she didn’t, they’d kill him and she’d be alone again. Amala opened her mouth and began chanting the words. Carn’s voice seemed far away from her, muffled, but she sang loudly, dropping her swords to her sides. Now the Orcs swarmed over her and she felt their wicked blades biting her in a hundred places. She cowered and covered her face, still singing. They piled on top of her, pressing her down, down under a heavy stack of bodies, down until they pressed her into the very ground, then underneath it.
She felt their weight, but she also heard Carn’s voice, and she sang with him. Then she felt his hand somehow find her own and tightly grab it.
Suddenly they were in a lovely forest glade. The trees were tall and green and birds sang sweetly. She glanced over and he was an Elf again. He smiled at her and she embraced him tightly. “See what we can do together?” He said to her. “Are they really gone this time? They won’t come back?” She asked him. “Never again. I’ll be with you, forever.” The moment was profound and they stared into each other’s eyes. Amala started to speak, to tell him how much she loved him, but she realized then that all she had to do was think it and he would know. She felt a deep, profound love for her radiate from him. For a moment she was terrified that he would not feel the same depth of love projecting from her. But he smiled happily and to her astonishment, she knew that she felt it as deeply for him. Looking into each other’s faces, they began to sing together. Their voices blended perfectly, so beautifully that the birds stopped singing and listened to them. They sang for hours - perhaps it was days, weeks or months, but there was immense joy in the singing and time meant nothing to them. They had each other and they were complete. © 2014 Eddie DavisReviews
