For Every Action There Is An Equal Reaction

For Every Action There Is An Equal Reaction

A Poem by The Butterfly Effect

Tornadoes kill dozens.

Tsunamis, hundreds.

Earthquakes, thousands.

We cry, we mourn, we plead:

Why, God, why?

But we’ve never stopped to think that maybe it isn’t God;

maybe it’s the Earth taking her revenge.

We’ve raped her lands since the beginning of civilization.

We’ve marred her beautiful skin with roads and buildings.

We’ve polluted her breath with chemicals and gas.

We’ve cut her up and tore her down.

We’ve sucked the very life force from the depths of her core.

Humans are rats,

greedy and overabundant,

willing to do anything to get what we want

and yet squeal and flee at the first sign of danger.

There’s nothing to do with a rat

besides exterminate it.

Nature Divine is doing just that,

exterminating us.

Getting rid of the pests invading her being,

unleashing unforgiving wrath upon the fleas nipping at her flesh,

trying to take back what is rightfully hers

in the form of whipping wind tunnels

and exploding mountains followed by streams of fire

and miles and miles of blinding, angry, gnashing snow.

There’s nothing we can do about it.

We are trapped

like fish in a bowl,

completely at Mother Earth's mercy.

She’s willing to live in harmony until we decide to advantage of what she’s shared.

Only then she turns from us,

destroys us,

as we destroyed her.

God has nothing to do with it.

We don’t live on God.

Whilst I get the overall sentiment and agree with a few of your points, one thing I might point out is that MAN is not separate from Mother Earth. Every living thing comes from the earth and is returned to the earth. Man as a living thing cannot be separated from nature.

Tornadoes, tsunamis, earthquakes, ice-ages, asteroid impacts all affected this Mother nature long before Man evolved into the creature of today. These are not NEW things unleashed purely as punishment for Man's 'greed'.

It seems too easy to blame "Man" for the destruction and devastation of "Mother Earth" as she is presented today. Mother Earth has endured periods of devastating change since she birthed herself. There's a term for this: Evolution.

Have we "detroyed" Mother Earth? One might think so if one only focussed on the negative, based on the premise that anything man touches he destroys. Leaving out the positive however presents a biased point of view. How do we in fact 'KNOW' that Mother Earth is angry and wishes to rid herself of the "pests" you allude to? What if we flip it and say Mother Earth is proud of the accomplishments of Man, if she stares in wonder at the Creations we have brought to being? What if she likes our roads and our monuments and our grand cities? Is 'green' the only colour she accepts? How can we know this?

There is no Mother Earth. There is a planet in the shape of a ball. Man lives on this planet now. Other living things preceded him and future living and non-living things will supercede him. Catastrophic events have impacted this planet as they have every other. To assign a personhood to this spinning ball... and then present the argument that everything is man's fault? Where is the proof for this? Earth endures periods of extreme heat and extreme cold. Earth continues, until the day it will do so no longer, through any number of possible catastrophies.

Introducing God into this argument is naive. God is a belief. This belief is just one of many inherent rights. Again, how do you know the shape of God and that we don't in fact "live" on him?

Whilst I accept your right to voice your opinion and uphold your beliefs, I take exception to your including ME in your assertions. Had you perhaps presented a more balanced view, your idealism may have resonated more. This preaching type of expounding leaves you vulnerable to opposition, where there should have been an opportunity for discussion.

I hear it a lot. The movement calling for the eradication of the raping and pillaging 'pest' that is mankind. Would you offer up your life and remove yourself for the parasite you claim to be? Would you lead by example?
