A Penny Dropped

A Penny Dropped

A Story by Janyce Helen Van Es

The drug dealer meticulously counted out the price of a bag of crack cocaine.

“Ha ha,” he laughed, “You miscounted by one cent.”

Melba remembered her calculation in the car amounted to exactly ten dollars. When she opened her door, the penny had dropped to the concrete.

As she pulled out of the parking space, an unmarked car driven by a deputy sheriff pulled into her place.

The cop saw a man walk over towards the police car to retrieve the penny.  When he bent over to pick it up, a small bag of cocaine fell from his shirt pocket.
