Tiny Hummingbird

A poem about valuing the little things in life.

I look out my window

Hoping to catch sight of you

Morning sunlight finds its way to my front porch

Bugs crawl around hunting for food

I pray that you will too

 

My hand cups my chin

Anticipation mounts as I wait

Hours tick by slowly, still I don’t turn away

I just know you will grant my wish

I will stay all day if I must

 

You fly in swiftly

Tiny wings flitting furiously

In stationary flight, you drink my crimson gift

Turning my way as if to say thank you

Prior to ducking away

 

Until tomorrow, tiny hummingbird

Nature is truly astounding, isn't it? I am particularly fond of the shape of this poem, was that intentional? I also liked that this was addressed to the hummingbird itself, rather than being about the hummingbird. Very unique perspective that I enjoyed reading.
