When the Light is RightA Poem by Of This EarthI turn out the light over and over, But it comes back everyday to find me, Shines through windows, Between lashes, adjusts to earth’s revolution Beneath ocean’s ruffling heart. Beckoning To find me A tall glass of water that Surrenders less surface to the air Keeping what’s within warmer for longer. I call my mother’s name and hear nothing in return. It seems the human in her has only Critique for me. I give any hunter of dignity no reason to target me. And walk from old rules Away from a game no one else is playing To find me. A string wrapped in chaos To pull one means They all twist In the middle lies the abyss of Confusion, Unknown. Trajectories. Ancestor wisdom whispers balance in the constant liquor, billboard, cell phone ringing. The store’s shelves overflow With things I do not need. And for the things within me pushed out of reach-I grieve. Shift dirt from grave shared with the past to find me. I know that the earth breathes and Lets go of all the busyness and abyss For the soul to resist decay So that bit by bit memory is rectified and human experience Spans not just this one human life, but many And inside of you is a little piece of me. Like Yin, I am embraced as I circle thee. Nest within nest, Quest returns home. Bound up is the future for all of us. I know the more I dive into crisp waters still from depth The way will manifest Will lift my limbs from incarcerating rest To find their way in this world and from the story Carve path free. © 2014 Of This Earth |
