An open mic or poetry is always fun. They inspired this.

To The People Of The Open Mic

To the people of the open mic,

I'm grateful you opened yourselves up

to us. Those that haven't been to places you've been,

still connect so well, to words that flow from your

lips, smooth as butter, upon toasted bread. 

Your play with words is superior, my focus travels

to junctures and experiences you speak of,

feeling as if I am a part of them.

Latching onto the hooks of each line, reeled in

by your voice guiding me to points of sober

reflection. Your viewpoints and observations are bait 

on lines, that lure me to new perspectives,

strengthened understanding. Sentences and phrases,

the awareness that poetry is the process of changing into, 

and shifting again.
