Overwhelmed

Overwhelmed

A Poem by E.A Cummins

Overwhelmed
To say the least

I feel like I'm drowning
In situations beyond my power
Beyond my control

I feel so heavy
So weighed down
By the weight of the world

A world I cannot control

My head feels fuzzy
Like a TV that cannot find a station

I feel like I'm running a race
With no finish line

I cannot see the end of things
But feel like I'm grasping for an end

To the chaos
The disorder
The things out of my control

I want to not feel so heavy
I want to feel like I'm floating

But I'm stuck
Inside my mind

And I'm a prisoner there

I know I have the keys to set myself free

But can't figure out
How to work the locks

The speaker relates feelings of overwhelming stress because of a world that can't be controlled. No specifics are given, just a feeling of helplessness. Can't think of any advice save an old French proverb: "Praise the God of all, drink the wine and let the world be the world." There is no true peace but that within yourself.
