"Soooo... Derek's cute." Anna nudged me with her elbow as we walked.

I snorted "shall we not?" She's been down my throat to get a boyfriend for the last... oh... I don't know... year?

"Come on! He's hot! And he's totally into you."

"Really? I don't know... he seems... like he's got someone at home."

"Oh I doubt it. They way he looks at you... he totally wants to take you out."

"Oh my god Anna... I'm not interested!"

"Alright alright. I'm just trying to help."

"Anna I appreciate your consideration, but I'd rather find someone on my own terms."

"God. You're so boring! Step out of your comfort zone! Walk on the wild side! Expand your horizons! Shoot for the moon! Even if you miss you'll land-"

"You'll land on Uranus!"

"Oh my god Holly."

I shrug "Shmeh."

"What the hell does shmeh even mean?"

"Oh look there's Derek! Hi Derek!" Anna yelled waving.

He looked up and waved back as Anna ran over to where he was. I followed. Anna plopped down beside him on the sand.

"Oooh! Who ya textin'? A girlfriend perhaps?" Anna winked at me.

Derek laughed. "Close. A boyfriend." I laughed and Derek did too. "Sorry hun, you're not my cup of tea." He smiled.

"Oh... no no not for me, for Holly! I... I have a boyfriend. I wasn't asking for me..."

"Sure hun. It's okay. I mean, I am just sooooo handsome and strong and sexy!"

I let out a giggle. I was loving this.

"Are we going to giggle or are we going to surf!?" She asked annoyed.

"Can we do both?" I asked

"I think we can." Derek laughed.

"No! oh my god. I'm going surfing." Anna beelined it for the water with her board in hand. I follow after and we paddled out together.

 

When we got out far enough we just sat there and waited.

"I'm sorry Anna that was just too funny."

She laughed "Its okay, it was kinda funny"

"Y'know, I knew there was something about him. My gay-dar is strong."

We both laugh this time.

"Oh Halls, I love you."

I dramatically brush my hair back "I love me too."

We laugh some more, then I feel something brush my foot. I yelp.

"What?" Anna asks.

"I donno, probably just sea weed." Then Anna yelps. "... sea weed?"

"Uh... yeah... sea weed..." She says with wide eyes.

"... Uh sea weed with scales?" I ask.

"A fish perhaps?" She suggests. We both look down and what we see... won't soon be forgotten.
