I am a 37 year old man living in New York, I have lived here all of my life and I have noticed one thing. What has happened to the American Pride in our great country?
Since the time of George Washington, Americans has had a sense of purpose, a reason that we were meant for something bigger then ourselves. We have fought wars for our independence and a war against ourselves namely the civil war. We have fought for the rights and privileges of every man, woman and child, passed a bill of rights and landed on the moon, but there has always been something missing, PRIDE. I have gone around asking people a very simple question, what nationality are you? And nearly everyone I asked was born in the good old U.S.A. or is a citizen in this country and do you know what the answers were. Out of 50 people I asked only five identified themselves as an American, all the others said their country of origin or of their descendents. Why? You were born in this country! You have taken an oath of shedding your responsibilities to your former country. But we have all said that we are of a different nationality other than American, myself included. We as a nation had suffered through the worst attack in American history, 9/11. On that day everything that is American came to the forefront. We chanted USA at the top of our lungs and asked for revenge, but what about few weeks after those terrible events. We began to go about our daily lives back into the grind of business as usual and then we heard it again. The chants of USA, USA, USA, when we heard the news that we infiltrated a compound in Pakistan and kill the bastered where he stood. Now the question at hand is what has happened to the American Pride? Do we need to be attacked again for us to join together as a single voice? Do we need to kill an insignificant piece of dirt to rejoice on why this country is so great? Or should we go back to the mentality that if you don’t consider yourself an American then go back the way you came? When will the people in this country wake up and take pride in this country no matter the issues we face and be proud to be and American and live in the pursuit of true happiness for liberty and justice for all the is American. © 2011 Dino "Camora" ZonettiFeatured Review
