The Fine LineA Poem by Tanushree
Sometimes I wish I was better,
And sometimes I try. Sometimes, my hopes flag up, And sometimes I wish I could die. This utopian life that I am leading, Sometimes I wish I could denounce. It is a vision just, Holds value not worth an ounce. For I know how this world works, Or at least, I think I do. Nothing ever seems to fall into place, Never seems to be the utopian society everyone thinks I'm living in. And then sometimes I walk up to the mantelpiece, I lift that bulk of paper no one bothers to read anymore. That bulk of paper, which has so often meant more to me than any human ever would. It screams, "Israel!" It claims they have breached humanitarian code, again It screams, "Spain!" It claims they have died a slow, mutilating economic death, again And I sigh dejectedly, for I realised the heights my idiosyncrasy grazed It ends, Praying for this world. Again. © 2014 Tanushree |
