Apollo's Prophecy

Apollo's Prophecy

A Poem by Therene

Seek the Oracle of Delphi
before every hero's quest
before every war tactic
Seek Apollo's best.

Jason, Aenas, Achilles,
Perseus, Theseus, and Hercules.
Great heroes of their time
with a prophecy before their birth.

As vague as a prophecy may be,
but as skillfully done
with rhythm, rhyme, and such
and till the end it prevails.

Woe to those who intervene one,
Haze to those who try to understand one...
it is only in the end you realize,
...Apollo's prophecy, a mere hindsight.

Admittedly, the title did lure me in. I honestly do like Greek mythology and most of the things that has to do with it. It simply is intriguing in its depth and complexity. I like the way you describe Apollo's prophecy, how it seems useless but at the same time isn't.

I hardly ever have the pleasure of reading a piece with references to Greek mythology. This piece is beautiful because of the insight it gives the reader. I got a lot out of this. Gorgeous piece. :)

They say Hindsight is always 20/20. You reminded me of that idiom.
This was an amazing tribute to the gods.

I had to Google a few names here and there. It's such a nice write. It's powerful and uses a few words to convey your message. Of course it can be interpreted many ways but I think that it's more of a reflection of human psyche in accordance with Greek mythology. That's what it is based on actually. Human temperament and how a certain action can lead to various (and sometimes devastating) consequences. It all depends on what one's perspective is.
