Tears are falling,

I’m on the phone,

Trying to get a ride home,

From my mother,

Who didn’t know where I was,

She was worried,

But she couldn’t here in my voice,

That I was crying,

She was screaming at me,

Making me cry,

Because I knew when I got home,

I would be crying more,

I hate living at home,

Because all that happens,

Is my parents fighting,

Hitting me,

Or drinking,

Sometimes they care,

But they don’t always,

They don’t know,

How to care for me,

Tears continue to fall,

As I wait for my mom,

When she arrives,

She sees that I’m crying,

She asks me what’s wrong,

She is finally caring about me for once,

“Well everyday all I hear,

Is fighting back and forth,

You or dad sneak into my room,

Wake me up from my slumber,

And yell at me,

Or hit me,

And I can’t take it anymore mom,

I don’t want to live with you anymore.”

My mom broke down,

Right next to me,

She grabbed for me,

Pulling me close,

Telling me,

“Darling, I’m sorry,

We are doing this to you,

You don’t deserve this treatment,

But I promise you now,

It won’t be this way anymore,

We will try to change,

And love you more.”

In response I just cried,

I wanted their acceptance,

I wanted their love,

But was I ever truly going to get it,

I don’t really know.
