Chapter 3

“Is he really okay, Randy? Or are you lying to me? Like you normally do when it comes to Aidan,” Chloe asked Randy when Aidan went to the bathroom. Randy looked at her when Chloe asked the question.

"He is fine, Chloe, you don't have to worry. I am not lying to you, darling," Randy said, but he knew that he was lying. He just couldn't tell her the truth. Aidan would have his butt for telling anyone. Chloe was not convinced by Randy's statement. She glared at him from the corner of her eye.

Aidan was in the bathroom looking at himself in the mirror. He seemed to be looking in the mirror a lot lately. Aidan looked like he was in a lot of pain, but he was trying to hide it from Chloe. He didn’t really want her to know that his mother died when he was younger. He never really told anyone about that. The only people that do know are the closest people to him. If she really wants to know then Chloe would have to get that information from Randy. Aidan really didn’t want Randy to say a word, but if he did Aidan wouldn't really care. Aidan knew that he could trust Chloe a little bit. Aidan knew that Randy didn't want to continue to lie to his girlfriend.

When Aidan's headaches first started he had just turned fourteen. The pain was unbearable, but he tried to get through it. Aidan took pain medication, but the headache still wouldn’t go away. He didn't know why because normal headaches would go away with the help of pain killers. He thought maybe these weren't normal headaches.

“Hey Aidan, are you doing okay?” fourteen year-old, Randy asked. He saw that Aidan was in a lot of pain. Randy could tell by the look on his face. Aidan rarely ever showed emotions on his face. That was the first time in while that Aidan had shown any kind of emotion.

“I’m okay,” he said through gritted teeth. Aidan knew that he was okay. He didn’t understand why the headaches were developing, but he knew that it had something to do with the dream he kept having. The dream that he had replayed over and over again in his head. The same image of his mother lying dead on the ground. That was always going to haunt Aidan for the rest of his life and Aidan knew that.

“You really don’t look well, Aidan. You look like you are in tons of pain," Randy said in a worried tone. Randy was always worried about him anyway.

Randy was hanging out with Aidan for the day. Aidan liked hanging out with Randy because he was completely opposite of him. If he was the same as Aidan that would be very boring. Randy had a wild personality while Aidan's was like the quiet and shy type.

“I am in pain. I have the worst headache in the world. I don’t know where it came from. I know I was thinking about my Mom all day. I haven’t thought about her in weeks until today, but I guess that’s because it is the anniversary of her death,” Aidan said.

“I can’t believe it’s been eight years already,” Randy said with a sad expression written on his face. He had known Aidan since kindergarten. At that time Aidan was really outgoing and the next year was when his mother died.

“Me either. I really miss her,” Aidan said. Aidan was really upset and depressed. Randy didn’t know what to do about the situation at hand. Randy was not good at comforting people in their time of need. Randy was trying to stay positive for Aidan. Aidan didn’t seem to be in a good mood. Aidan was going through something that was really painful for him. Randy knew he was going through something painful because it was that time of year. After a few minutes Aidan fainted, but before he could fall Randy caught him. He called his father into Aidan's room. Aidan's father rushed into the room to see what was going on. The features on his face showed that he was in a panic. He didn’t know exactly what happened, but he could tell that his son fainted.

“What happened, Randy?”

“I don’t know what happened. Aidan was fine just a second ago,” Randy said to John.

“Aidan, Aidan,” his father called his name to try to get him to wake up. Aidan stirred and he woke up.

“Dad, I’m really tired,” he said. John put him in his room to let him sleep for a while. Aidan didn’t have the dream while he was sleeping. When Aidan woke up the headache had disappeared.

Aidan remembered that day clearly because it was one of his memories. He also remembered that it had happened a few times after that. Mostly the headaches were small, but the one that he had now was worse than the small ones he had gotten. He was about ready to leave the roller rink. He didn’t want to faint like he did the time when he was fourteen which was only two years ago.

“Aidan, are you okay in there?” Randy called with concern.

“Yes,” he answered. He walked out of the restroom and smiled at his friends. Aidan was still in pain, but he knew that it was time to go home to go to sleep. Aidan needed to sleep for a few hours because he knew the pain would subside. It always did when he had gotten some more rest.

“Are you sure you're okay?” Chloe asked him. She was still very concerned about him. Chloe did care about him because that was Randy's best friend. Chloe didn’t want to hate Aidan and she didn't hate him. She thought he was nice although he was shy. She also thought he was too quiet.

“Yes, but I think I should go home now. I need a nap. I might have gotten some sleep before, but I didn't get enough sleep anyway. If I sleep my headache will go away and I won't be in pain. It always goes away after I fall asleep,” Aidan said. Chloe nodded and Randy did as well. Randy knew Chloe was worried and Aidan did too, but he was still scared being around girls alone. He knew that was never going to change unless he wanted to settle down and get married. He doubted he wanted to marry anyone because he was too overwhelmed with shyness. He was completely and utterly shy around girls. If Aidan ever went on a date he would be too shy to talk to the girl that he was with. That would make for an awkward situation.

“I need to talk to him alone again for a couple seconds, Chloe. I need to ask Aidan a serious question,” Randy said to Chloe. She nodded and asked Randy for a dollar. Chloe went over to a vending machine. She wanted a bag of potato chips for a snack. Chloe was getting hungry anyway. Randy handed her the dollar and she moved away from them quickly. She wanted to give them space so that they could talk.

“What do you want to talk about?” Aidan asked Randy.

“Do you think I can tell her,” Randy asked. He couldn't keep hiding this from her.

“I would let you, but I need to know if she can keep this a secret. You know that I don’t like telling people my mother is dead. If you tell her then I guess I won’t have a problem. You can tell Chloe when she comes back over here,” Aidan said and sighed.

“Really,” Randy asked astonished.

“Yes, I’ll trust her, okay? She is your girlfriend. You just have to make Chloe promise that she won’t tell anyone about this story. Not many kids in the school know about my past and honestly I don't want them to know. They don't understand why I have grown shy. I will be here while you tell the story though I don't really want to hear it. it's too painful to listen to,” Aidan said.

“Okay,” he said with a smile and waved Chloe back over to where they were standing.

“What’s up,” she said as she offered both of them some of the chips. They both refused the offer.

“I need to tell you something really important.” Randy said.

“Go ahead,” she said.

“Well ten years ago when Aidan was six-years-old he lost his mother. Aidan couldn’t fall asleep the night that it happened. Earlier in the day Aidan was playing in the back yard. He had gotten this strange feeling that something bad was going to happen. His father called him over to help him so Aidan stopped playing to help his dad. When Aidan went inside he was down because he kept having that strange feeling which was that something bad was going to happen. His mother asked him what was wrong at that point because she noticed that he was down. He told her and she said not worry and that nothing bad was going to happen. He had drifted to sleep later in the day and then he had really terrible feeling that he was having all day. Aidan woke up from that because it was disturbing his sleep. He was really thirsty when he woke up. Aidan decided that he was going to get a full cup of water. When Aidan entered the kitchen he saw that his mother was lying on the ground. He ran over to her and started shaking her, but there was no response from her. Aidan went over to the other side of her body to see her face. When Aidan went on the other side he saw her blood all over her body. Her blood was splattered everywhere around the kitchen. Aidan didn’t really take notice of that until he saw the blood on her body. He started screaming and it stirred his father. His father came out to see what had happened. He told him and his father saw that he was right. Aidan's father called the police. The police and a forensic team showed up at their place,” Randy said finishing the story. When Randy finished the story he looked over at Chloe. She had tears welling up in her eyes. The tears were going to overflow any second. Randy knew that Chloe would be crying on his shoulder. He prepared for that.

“Why didn’t you tell me before?” she questioned quizzically.

“I wanted to be able to trust you. I don't trust a lot of people and you could tell that I didn't.,” Aidan said with a sad expression. He hated hearing the story about his mother, but he had too. Aidan refused to cry in public. He wasn’t going to cry, but he was saddened by hearing it.

“I’m sorry I couldn’t tell you sooner. Aidan told me this story ten years ago when it happened. I'm glad I was able to tell you now. Aidan has never been really this trusting with a girl, but he trusts you. That is surprising. You just need to keep this a secret. Not everyone in the school knows about this and he doesn't want them to know. Aidan has been hiding this issue for a couple of years. Please don't tell anyone the story I just told you,” Randy said. Chloe nodded and promised that she would not tell her a single soul.

“Do you still have that headache?” Randy asked. He nodded and they walked out to the car.

"What headache are you talking about?"

“The one that he is having right now. He's had it a couple of times. Do you want to know why he has that headache?” Randy asked.

“Yes, I do,” Chloe said.

“Well he had a dream about his mother. That is why and Aidan was thinking about her. He always gets those weird headaches when he thinks about his mother. He doesn't really know why he gets them. We should get him home so that you can go to sleep,” he said. They took off down the road. Aidan was happy that he was going to be able to sleep. He needed it because he didn't want that blasted headache anymore.

There are reasons the story is retold in this chapter. Randy was telling Chloe the story...and he needed to tell her what Aidan had told him when they were six years of age.

it's too painful to listen to,” Aidan said---It's

Same things I pointed out in the other 2 chapters but those were the only mistakes I found. I liked this chapter and I wonder what will happen next!
