Peter- Part 1- Chapter 5

Chapter 5

          The next day, Peter has another horrible day at school. He really wants to be alone, but he can’t leave Cassie and Mark. Cassie is clinging to him again. She’s currently sitting in Peter’s lap, eating her snack. Peter ruffles her hair lightly. “Did you have a good day at school, Cassie?”

          “I had such a fun day, Peter. I got to play with Riley and Carmen. We are the best of friends,” Cassie says while giggling. Peter tickles Cassie’s sides lightly. That sets her off laughing. Peter smiles at her laughter.

          “I’m glad you did,” Peter says and kisses her lightly on the head. She gives Peter a light kiss on the cheek.

He looks over at the clock. His mom will be home in about twenty minutes. He can’t wait for her to get home. He really wants to leave the house for a while. He wants to try to clear his mind. Plus, he feels it will help his mental state. Peter is trying to maintain a happy demeanor at home. He’s having a really hard time doing so.

Peter thinks it will help his mental state if he gets a few hours to himself. His favorite place to go is the park. It’s very peaceful. He hopes that he doesn’t run into anyone from school. A lot of his classmates hang out there. He’s afraid they will make fun of him some more.

“Peter, can you help me with my homework,” Cassie asks him. She’s a little bit confused. Cassie is not that great at math yet. Peter helps her as best as he can. He’s not a very great teacher. Peter also starts his own homework as well.

“Hey kids, I’m home,” he hears his mother shout. Peter is really wrapped up in his thoughts. He didn’t realize what time it was.

“Hey, Mom, I’m going out for a little while,” he says while grabbing his house keys.

“Alright, honey. Thank you for watching Mark and Cassie,” his mom says. She gives him a kiss on the cheek and smiles at him.

          “Peter, can I come with you, please,” Cassie asks him.

          “Sorry, sis, I want to be on my own for a bit. When I come home, I’ll play Barbie with you,” Peter promises. Cassie nods sadly. Peter lifts her into his arms and kisses her on the cheek. She smiles after that. He doesn’t like making Cassie sad. He still feels bad for making her cry the day before.

          Peter slowly makes his way to the park. No one is insight so far. He’s safe. Peter goes to his favorite spot in the park. There is a hidden path that leads to a lake. A lot of people know about it, but they hardly use it. A lot of people like going to the lake in the spring and summer months. It’s almost fall now. It’s a beautiful place when everything is in bloom. It’s also amazing when the leaves start changing colors. Peter goes there every time he’s upset or when he wants time alone.

          “Mommy, can we go to the park,” five-year-old Peter asked. His mother forced Damien to take Peter to the park. Damien always hated taking him to the park. He would complain the whole time. One day his father decided he would take him. His father knew how much he loved the park back then. Peter ran as far as his tiny legs could carry him. His father lost sight of him and started to panic. Peter was on the hidden path. He got to the lake. He felt so happy there. This was before anyone started picking on him. Peter hid his other obsessions when he was younger. He knew that no one would understand it, especially his best friend.

          Peter wandered closer to the lake and touched it with his finger. He felt so serene there. He wanted to stay forever. Peter knew that his father was looking for him. He could hear his name being screamed. He followed the path back. When his father found him, he yelled at Peter for leaving him.

          “Peter, you are to never run off again! What if someone took you away?! You know you shouldn’t leave me or your mother’s side! Never do that again! Do you hear me?!” He heard his father yell. Peter nodded sadly. He was upset that he was being yelled at. Peter always hated being screamed at. He knew that it was his fault though. He should have waited for his father before exploring.

          Peter shakes off that memory because hates thinking about it. He does love remembering discovering the hidden path to the lake. The path leading up to the lake is beautiful. The lake itself is also beautiful. The water is a nice shade of blue.

          No one is there to ridicule Peter which makes Peter sigh in relief. He walks up the path to the lake. The sun is starting to set. The sunset reflecting off the water is beautiful. Peter feels happy at this moment. One day, he wants to paint a picture of this lake. It’s an inspirational place for him.

          Peter walks along the path. He thinks about what’s going on in school. He thinks about the reason he’s getting bullied. A lot of the boys in his school are huge into sports. Only a couple of guys try out for the play. They don’t get bullied like Peter does. Those boys already knew they wanted to be actors. Peter knows he still doesn’t fit in with them. They have wanted to be actors their whole lives. Peter only recently wanted to try something new. He’s sure that they will shun him too. Many people have especially when he needs help. They all laugh at him. No one tries to help him either.

          Peter feels tears running down his cheeks. He wants to be accepted by someone. He wants someone else besides his brother to accept him. Peter knows that Damien has to accept him no matter what. Growing up, Damien was never interested in spending time with Peter. Peter notices that Marc is acting more like Damien every day. Marc is really into sports, but sometimes Peter catches Marc drawing. Peter also likes to draw sometimes. It all depends on his mood.

          Peter wipes the tears away. He’s afraid someone might show up at the lake. He doesn’t want to be made fun of for crying. He starts walking again. He’s still deep in thought. What will happen if he decides to join football again? Would people accept him again? Or would they keep making fun of him? He hopes that someone will accept him again. It would be nice for him to have a friend to spend time with. 

          Peter starts thinking about other things…a place where his mind doesn’t want to go. Other images start popping into his mind. Peter looks back at the lake and a smile appears on his face. He takes all his clothes off and decides to hop in. Focusing on swimming helps get rid of the images plaguing his mind. Peter really wants to be happy. He doesn’t want to feel sad anymore. Swimming is numbing the pain he feels on the inside.

          Peter will go home and try to start anew. He doesn’t want anyone to suspect a thing. Hopefully, Cassie will be too tired to play Barbie. Peter will play with her tomorrow if he needs to. It’s almost also  close to Cassie’s bedtime right now. Peter knows Cassie won’t be able to sleep without him being home. He goes home as soon as he can. He’s feeling much better than before. He is grateful for being able to go to the lake.

          When Peter arrives home, Cassie jumps into Peter’s arms. She wraps her arms tightly around his neck. He smiles at her and kisses her cheek. She wants to sleep in Peter’s room again. Peter allows her too since he got home late.

I can accept Peter, and kind of relate to him. I have an older sister and a younger brother of which I was never a friend to. They liked their military and Yu-Gi-Oh games and I liked books and manga. We never got along and my brother idolized my sister, never me, I'm sad to say.
I had a couple of questions, but forgot one xD
Question: Where is Peter's mum and dad at? His dad was mentioned in flashback and I think his mum appeared briefly in an early chapter.
Anyways, this one was great, it showed us more of who Peter really is.

I did enjoy this chapter, and I do accept Peter. In some ways we are a lot alike. Great job thusfar.
