Peter- Part 1- Chapter 4A Chapter by Angie Diane♥♥This is a shorter chapter than the first three, but it will be longer next chapter. I decided to change the ending. Cassie is just so adorable.Chapter 4 Peter is sitting in his room, reading a book. He’s reading Nineteen Minutes by Jodi Picoult. It’s a reread for him. He’s read this book a couple of times before. He connects with the boy in the story. He knows what it’s like to be different. He also knows what it’s like to be bullied. He hears a knock on the door a couple of minutes later. Cassie opens the door and walks into his room. Cassie jumps into Peter’s arms again and then sits back in his lap. “What’s up, Cassie,” Peter asks. He ruffles her hair a bit. She giggles happily. She wraps her arms tightly around her big brother. “I just want to be around you, Peter. Is that too much to ask,” Cassie asks while pouting. Peter laughs and smiles. Peter used to do the same thing to Damien. He and Damien were close then. Now they have really grown apart. Peter hates how much their relationship has deteriorated now. He knows, it’s his own fault. He knows he pushed Damien away. “No, sis, it’s not,” he says while tickling her. She laughs happily and hugs him tighter than she did before. Peter knows Cassie wants something. He figures she wants a snack. Sometimes, he would go behind his parent’s back and give her ice cream. Peter thinks Cassie is too adorable to resist sometimes. Cassie starts bouncing in his lap. She wants to get information out of him. She has the perfect plan to get him to spill the beans. She hopes it works. “Good, so, let’s go play, Peter,” she says enthusiastically. She tugs at his arm. She forces him to go to her bedroom. Peter assumes that she wants to play Barbie. Peter sighs heavily. He really hates playing Barbie. If he plays with her, he at least can tire her out. He can get her to go to bed on time. His mother appreciates it. It’s hard to get Cassie to go to bed sometimes. Cassie sits on the floor, waiting for Peter to do the same. She gives him a puppet instead of Barbie. Cassie loves coming up with random skits. She usually involves Peter in her skits. Peter sighs a little bit. Peter has a hard time saying no to his little sister. Peter sits down next to her. Cassie starts talking with the hand puppet. “Peter, how was school today? Please, tell me the truth,” Cassie says with the hand puppet. Is Peter going to be able to lie to Cassie? He really didn’t have a great day. He guesses it’s written all over his face. Cassie knows something is up with him. She may be young, but she’s good at picking up on his emotions. Cassie’s been like this ever since she turned three years old. She could always tell when Peter was in a good or bad mood. When Peter was in a bad mood, she would cling to him. When Peter was in a good mood, she would constantly want to play. “I had an okay day at school,” Peter says using the other hand puppet. Cassie looks at Peter. “You’re not telling me the truth, brother. What happened? Where other kids being mean to you,” Cassie asks with a frown on her face. Peter looks down at the ground. He can’t tell her what’s going on at school. She is too young to understand. “Cassie, I’m serious, please, believe me for once,” Peter replies. He also pats her on the head. He takes the puppet off his hand. A moment later, they both hear a knock on the door. Damien opens the door after Cassie says come in. He stares at Peter. He wants to talk to him. Peter still finds it strange that Damien is trying to care now. “Hi Damien,” Cassie said kissing him on the cheek. He smiles at Cassie. He shoots Peter a sad expression. Peter looks down at the ground. He still doesn’t want to talk to Damien much. Peter needs to be left alone for a little while. He runs out of Cassie’s room. He locks himself in his own bedroom. He hears little knocks on his door. He knows it’s Cassie, but he ignores her. His heart breaks when he hears Cassie crying for him. “I’m sorry, Cassie,” he whispers. He feels bad for making his baby sister cry. When he calms down enough, he opens his door. Cassie runs in and clings to him. She’s still crying. He lifts her into his arms, kisses her cheek, and holds her close to him. She lays her head on his shoulder. He knows Cassie won’t leave his side for the rest of the day. Eventually, Cassie falls asleep against Peter’s chest. He let’s her stay in his room to sleep. © 2024 Angie Diane♥♥Reviews
