Gorging out Forbidden Love from the Forensic HeartA Poem by Amorette DuvannesA villanelle written in iambic pentameter about the loss of innocence with falling in love for the first time, and knowing of the inevitability that it will hurt.
I deem thee all, bent knees, waterproof fay:
It will be yours; black fever, white-hot ash, Wounded-blind, feeble, made of daze, and clay -- They come in hoods - butter-knees in slight day. The heart, the heart -- spits out like a backlash. I deem thee all, bent knees, waterproof fay: Like a phantom, He will be gone in May: Lost to high grace, leaving blood run like a rash; Wounded-blind, feeble, made of daze, and clay. Meshing Him out won't break the snap, thus Pray! Hounded hurt; a red, sulking, screaming bash -- I deem thee all, bent knees, waterproof fay: How thou art ostracised, black-eyed dismay! When He steps out; A roaring hoovered slash! Wounded-blind, feeble, made of daze, and clay -- Like a Swan, He is gone to the Far Way - Pumping blood; hoarding geese, please! A damned mash: I deem thee all, bent knees, waterproof fay -- Wounded-blind, feeble, made of daze, and clay --
