This chapter is Rated: TEEN

As Ace roared off in his car with Tyr in the front-seat and me in the trunk, the scene changed to halfway around the Earth.

Something new was happening, and something important.

Janielle had wiped her forehead for what seemed the umpteenth time. But instead of just hitting dirt with her excavation tools, she had found something solid and metallic.

Margot, also an archeologist stepped back into the Egyptian tomb, recently unearthed for the grand opening of a new museum, to check on her friend, Janielle.

"Hey, Marge. Look at this." Janielle said.

Margot stepped in and shone her light on the finding. Buried deep in the tomb was a round piece of metal, like a button.

"Press it, see what happens, Jan." she offered.

"What if it's a trap ?"

Margot snickered, "Just how many traps have you found in tombs anyways ?"

Jan rolled her eyes, "Too many. Seriously, this could be bad."

Margot shrugged, "You'll never know until you try."

Jan nodded. "Alright, here goes nothing ..." Then she pressed the button hoping to see if anything would take place, but nothing did.

"Maybe it's broken ?" Marge offered.

Jan shook her head, "No. I'm going to dig it out. It's got to be something important, and with luck, valuable. We're down to our last dollar digging away out here. It's gotten to the point - I just don't want to be an archeologist anymore. The pay sucks."

Her eyes lit up greedily, "No, a tomb raider would be a better name for me ! Selling all my rare artifacts and treasures to the highest bidders, not just low-paying museums."

Marge leaned over to tap Jan on her shoulder, "Isn't that title, 'Tomb Raider' already taken by someone else ?"

Jan shrugged off the hand. "Maybe, but let's see what this is."

She expertly dug around the area using her precision tools. Clearly it wasn't a button at all, but some type of metallic pill-shaped container, like a cylinder with a rounded top and bottom, about the size and thickness of her whole hand.

Finally she got it free from the ancient sand. Using a little whisk broom she dusted off the residue to take a closer look.

Marge shone a bright light directly on it. It was then it sparkled like a million diamonds right around the base.

"Whoo !" Jan said in appreciation. "Look at that !"

Marge nodded, "I'll say, with all that embedded quartz, it's got to be worth something. Here - there's some writing on the top. What does it say ?"

Jan reached in her back pocket for her notes. She had done a little translating of Egyptian hieroglyphics in the past, and fortunately, this was just a few symbols to convert.

She read carefully. "Sky ... Stone."

Marge laughed, "Sky stone. what's that ?"

"I don't know she said, thoroughly caught up in turning it around in her hand now to see more detail of this artifact. Sure enough there was more writing on the bottom. She translated.

"Future ... Messenger."

She turned it around in her hand again and heard a soft click from inside. Slowly she pulled her hand away and realized the base rotated. Eagerly she grabbed and tried to turn it as if to unscrew it, but it maintained being locked.

"This is a puzzle." she told both herself and Marge. Marge was quiet to see what happened next.

Jan gripped the top and sides and tried to turn it again, but it wouldn't.

Intuitively she took a magnet out of her pocket and placed it to the side of the artifact. The device made a clicking sound again from somewhere inside, but still did not open.

"It's a magnetic lock." she said with finality.

Marge peered to get a closer look. "Oh, really ?"

Jan put the artifact in her pocket. "This is not the first time I've come across this sort of thing. The last one required a strong magnet indeed, but inside that stone capsule was a ruby ! I used my loupe and determined it was worth at least a couple of hundred dollars."

Marge grinned, "That'll just about pay for one day of this expedition. But do you really think there's something good locked in this container ?"

Jan nodded, "Absolutely. I'm done kicking sand around for the day. I'm hot, I'm tired, I wanna lavender bath. This dig will keep till tomorrow. Let's see if we can get this artifact open back at camp and see what's inside. I've got some stronger magnets there."

Marge laughed, "Maybe it'll be another ruby !"

Jan responded, tired, "We can only hope."

With that the pair left through the tomb's entrance, trudging through the desert, making chuff-chuff noises as they headed back for their camp which was a few leagues from where they were now - just as the sun started to descend in the horizon cooling the evening sand.

. . .

Back with Tyr and Dev, Ace was just pulling up to the ice-cream parlor. They all piled in but I stayed where I was but opened the back of the trunk slightly to get a breeze.

I didn't have to wait long. Suddenly there was a loud thump and apparently everyone had gotten back in the vehicle.

Ace spoke first, "Let's take our ice cream to the park, Tyr. Does that sound good ?"

"Sure." I heard her chirp up from, once again, the front passenger seat.

They took off, I gently closed the back of the trunk so cars following from behind would not see me.

I could also make out a whispering from the two in the back seat, but no words were definite.

I shifted uncomfortably in the trunk, determined to get closer to the whispering, and finally I could hear what was being said.

"Do you got it ?"
"Right here."
"Heh - she'll never knew what hit her."
"But he'll certainly have a good time."
"Oh yeah."

Then I heard what sounded like an envelope being torn open. A slight hissing of something in a liquid. Then a louder voice. "Hey, Tyr. I'm still holding your water, you want it now ?"

"Yes, please."she said up front.

I didn't need to be a detective to know what was happening here. They were going to drug Tyr, likely with something as bad as Rohypnol. I had to stop them, but how ?

There was a large tire beneath me. Maybe if I picked it up and dropped it, it would sound like something was wrong with the car ? But then also, wouldn't I get caught for being in the trunk ?

I worried about what to do for several miles when suddenly, we had arrived at the park and the car coasted to a stop.

Tyr spoke from up front, but her voice was blurry. "Ace, I'm feeling really tired, can I just sit here for a bit."

Then I could hear his voice laugh, "Absolutely, Tyr. You take a load off. Me and my boys, we're just going to stretch our legs a bit."

They got out and savage whispering began. One word I made out clearly, "Pop her cherry."

I may have been a nerd who wouldn't know the first thing about how to take off a woman's bra from the clasps behind, but I certainly recognized that term !

I waited as long as I could, then I burst out of the trunk when I knew they were dragging her unconscious body out of the car.

"Hold it right there you creeps !" I yelled, flinging open the trunk lid.
