After Alice's
stuffed rabbit opens a portal inside her dresser, she crosses over into
a world of puppets and dead animals in this Czech bizarre adaptation of
Lewis Carroll's children's book, considered a classic of surreal
cinema.
The Caterpillar, the Mad Hatter, and the Cheshire Cat are
equally given warped makeovers via stop-motion animation and stark
cinematography.
And thus the story begins !
David's Dibs:
I
can't say for certain this is for all children. Certainly it was intended
for Czech youngsters years ago but might be a bit scary for kids in the states today due
to the creepy stop-motion of the taxidermist animals.
That plus the fact when the Red Queen says, "Cut off their head," the White Rabbit is only too willing and eager to do so with a pair of sharp scissors no less.
The stop-motion is nothing short of brilliant however in this darker version of Alice In Wonderland.
Enjoi !
