I was calling Rose to let her know I don't think the buses would be running tomorrow as we were supposed to get together then. She said - oh if you could just see the number of auto accidents - but you don't have a TV, do you.
And no, I don't, but that's a different story.
What I =DID= see prominent and on the front page of YAHOO to see what traffic conditions were like is that Spock died, a little over 3-hours ago.
I'm going to miss this guy, a lot. I remember visiting my Mom at her apartment. She had no TV and we both loved Star Trek. What I would do is audio-record using the internal microphone from Dad's old tape recorder and record the sound from an episode.
Then I would bring it over to her and we could listen and enjoy it.
I remember being completely 'pumped' for Star Trek The Motion Picture when it first came out. I never was a 'Star Wars' kid, is I think the expression. No, I was a Trekkie and proud of it.
I went to Star Trek conventions, bought memorabilia and even got one of my Star Trek books autographed by Chekhov (Walter Koenig) while he was there.
I remember seeing mock-up phasors for sale for $85 and BOY did I want one !
So long ago ...
What were some of the iconic things Spock said in Star Trek ?
Live long and prosper.
The needs of the many outweighs the needs of the few (to which Kirk added, "Or the one.") referring of course to Spock when he died in the radiation chamber in Star Trek 2, "The Wrath Of Khan"
I have been - and always shall be - your friend. (Herein he died in Star Trek 2)
From the TV series you should remember:
Change is the essential process of all existence.
In critical moments, men sometimes see exactly what they wish to see.
... for those of you who may be wondering what Leonard Nimoy saw before he died ? The answer should be a simple one. Millions of fans and friends.
Spock, Teacher, Friend - you will be sorely missed.
Such a great job you've done here, honoring this unique man and sci-fi icon. This last bit and picture of Spock looking out is not only genius, but touching. I watched Star Trek on a black and white TV way back when it was a new show. Truly good things, like Bach, Beatles, and grilled cheese sandwiches endure through time. Add to that Spock and Star Trek.

I can only hope to be as coherent and aware of things around me when I reach his age.

Then it's reflection on your own life, and how many more years you have yourself. Here's hoping Leonard, wherever he may be, is truly in a paradise befitting of the wisdom and happiness he left behind.
