This point is Rated: EVERYONE
Happy Thursday.
This
was a series I started a few years back but really didn't have time to
address it every day as I was attempting. Since I have completed both books for The
Nancy Principle which was worked on each Thursday, this will be my new
writing for that day of the week.
And
it will usually be pretty short, basically recalling some interesting
points in my life, my memories, and what I had written in the past - and
hopefully there will be something for everyone to enjoy.
. . .
There are many directions life can take us, aren't there Mate ?
I
think sometimes we really forget just how good we have it where we are
now. It's like that old story of Brer Rabbit. Do you remember the one ?
Brer Rabbit: [hammering his front door shut] Doggone ol' Briar Patch ! Doggone place like this. Doggone it to doggone ...
Uncle Remus: Hmm. Uh, howdy there, Brer Rabbit.
Brer Rabbit: [stops hammering; stammering] Who's that callin' my name ?
[He sees Remus]
Brer Rabbit: Oh, uh, uh, hello thar, Uncle Remus.
Uncle Remus: Appears to me that you's in a powerful bad mood to go to the party.
Brer Rabbit: [trying to board up his door] But I ain't goin' to no party, 'cause I ain't gonna be here ! I'm gonna leave this ol' place !
Uncle Remus: You mean you's leavin' your old Briar Patch ?
Brer Rabbit: [nailing board] That I is !
Uncle Remus: The place where you was born and raised ?
Brer Rabbit: [nailing another board] That =I= is !
Uncle Remus: You mean you's leavin' for GOOD ?
Brer Rabbit: [nailing a third board] I said, that I ...
[He accidentally hits his thumb with his hammer and drops it]
Brer Rabbit: Ow ! Now see there ? That ol' Briar Patch ain't brought me nothin' but trouble ...
[He kicks the hammer, only to hurt his foot]
Brer Rabbit: Ow Ow ! And more trouble ! This is where my troubles is and this is the place I belongs away from !
Uncle Remus: [laughs slightly] Don't you know you can't run away from your troubles ?
Brer Rabbit: Where I'se goin', they's ain't gone to be no trouble.
Uncle Remus: There ain't no place that far.
Brer Rabbit: Well ... uh, just the same I doned made up my mind. And I ain't never nee ever comin' back again !
[sadly; holds out hand]
Brer Rabbit: Well, so long, Uncle Remus.
Uncle Remus: [shaking Brer Rabbit's furry hand] I sure hope you knows what you's doin' friend.
Brer Rabbit: [chuckling] Don't worry 'bout me. I can take care is myself !
And
so we might think. But this was not the case, in a very short time Brer
Rabbit ran right into Fox who had a trap waiting for him and it was
only because of Brer Rabbit's quick thinking did he manage to escape and
- you guessed it - go right back into his good safe home, where he
belonged after all.
So
give that a little thought the next time you think you're gonna run
away from home, or, even if you're all growed up now, quitting a job, or
telling someone you never want to see them again.
Do you really mean that ? As Uncle Remus would say, "Forever's a powerful long time."
Think
about it. How many years have you been doing your job, how many years
have you known that good friend of yours, and how long have you stayed
home - where you know you are safe ?
Balance
that with the way you feel right NOW and ask yourself, will you feel
this way tomorrow ? Will you be just as mad and just as upset - and just
as liable to make a bad decision then ?
No ? Then maybe wait for all that hoof hollering till tomorrow. Wait till your mood cools down and see how you're feeling then.
Things are always better in the morning, just give life a chance to catch up to you.
Are you more worried more about doing things right,
or just doing what you feel is the right thing ?
