Well it seems I wasn't the only one left high and dry. Google left a LOT of people with a locked video after they were only viewed 20 times:

It's clear that Google Drive wasn't making any money out of people streaming videos from their server is why they're locking up people's posts.

Where does this leave me ?

Well fortunately I know a bit about programming and data streaming over the Internet, so I am going with the seldom seen and infinitely usable JWPlayer. No, not the one they have now where they are high and mighty and charging per month for it's use and it requires you to enter an ID code to retrieve your videos - yah and good for them with that.

No, this is the first Freeware player that JW released years ago, and a darned good one it is too. Just a devil to work with as the instructions I found for it were in Japanese !

And - it will only play FLVs, not MKVs, Mp4s, WMVs, or AVIs as their current commercial player does. So for the past few days I was experimenting figuring out how to get a good quality FLV, and sad to say, it's much like MPEG-1 for quality. Yeeph. But it's still usable.

What corners are cut ? Well, it appears that the best quality videos I can get from it need to be encoded at 320x240 pixels, 15 frames-per-second, 512kbps video, and 64kbps audio (mono).

It also can't time seek except what is loaded, so if you are wanting to seek to the middle of a movie then depending on your Internet speed you may have to let it load for a bit before you can do so.

Yeah - not so good, but - it works and there isn't a limit to the number of viewers for it. Over time I'll check my other linked videos and see if they, too, are locked after 20-views, and I'll recode those for you - upon request.

As always, all videos I post can also be found in Youtube, it's just the quality of the ones I post will always be a little bit better in some way or other. Believe me, if it's in Youtube and halfway watchable, I'll link to that instead of native encoding - and you have seen me do that a few times now.

I'll post a useful video on the morrow to introduce the new player - and that will assist everyone in Writer's Cafe as it's an animated feature that teaches good methods of writing and grammar.
